VS) Ladies Bank of America JP Morgan Chase Wells Fargo Ally Financial and Citigroup have agreed to a massive settlement deal with the US government worth an estimated 26 billion dollars Most of the money will go towards helping victims of alleged improper lending practices by banks. An investigation into the banks_ procedures indicated that many home foreclosures were done with incomplete or in some cases fraudulent paperwork. The deal will help 750-thousand citizens who lost their homes during the collapse. They_ll receive payments of two-thousand dollars each. A million others will have their mortgage plans refinanced. The funds will be distributed over the course of the next three years.For the first time in 34 years the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission has approved licenses to build new nuclear reactors. They_ll be built by a group of utilities led by Southern Corporation and located at the Vogtle (VO-gull) nuclear power plant complex east of Atlanta Georgia. This marks the first time new licenses have been approved since before the Three Mile Island meltdown in 1979. Currently the US has 104 working reactors at 64 plants which provide 20-percent of the country_s energy. Of those reactors half of them are over 30 years old.Elsewhere in the US federal authorities are building a new barrier 300 feet into the ocean between Mexico and California. The 4-point-3 million dollar surf fence will hopefully deter illegal immigrants and smugglers from getting into the US between San Diego and Tijuana. It replaces the current barrier which isn_t much more than an uneven series of posts. This new one will be made of steel and concrete be up to 18 feet tall and should be more esthetically pleasing and secure. The project should be completed in about a month and last up to 30 years. Australian authorities have thwarted what they say was a terror plot organized by members of the Islamic State, or ISIS. Police claim it was the biggest counter-terrorism operation in the country_s history. Early Thursday morning, more than eight hundred officers took part in two dozen searches across Sydney. At least one suspect was arrested for terrorism related charges, and fifteen others have been taken into custody. Australian PM Tony Abbott says authorities received intel that Islamic militants were planning to kidnap and behead a member of the public, in a so-called demonstration killing. The Australian terror cell was allegedly receiving orders from a senior member of the Islamic State, which has wreaked havoc across Syria and Iraq. The Australian government is now pledging further support to the US in its fight against the militants. A little closer to home and in a rare show of solidarity, the US house of representatives are BACKING President Obama_s plan to arm and train Syrian rebels. Plus China and India have signed a LANDMARK dealThe US congress has given their approval for President Barack Obama_s plan to arm and train Syrian rebels. The 273 to 156 vote came after days of debate, with leaders ultimately agreeing that the threat posed by ISIS to the US was too great to ignore. The support, however, does NOT extend to committing ground troops in the region. In Africa, people affected by the growing Ebola outbreak are turning to the black market. According to the World Health Organization, desperate patients are purchasing blood from survivors of the virus. The blood is believed to contain antibodies that can combat the deadly disease. This hasn_t been proven to work but with no approved Ebola drugs currently available, infected people think it_s a risk worth taking.And China has signed a number of LANDMARK deals with India to ensure peace between the two Asian nations. One of the agreements will see the Chinese government investing 20 BILLION dollars in India_s infrastructure over a five-year period. They also include upgrades to India_s aging railway system, increased trade co-operation and a proposed settlement of the common border shared by the two countries. Firefighters are being deployed in the THOUSANDS to try and put out the blazes. The largest wildfire located east of Sacramento has torched almost 28 thousand acres. Right now though, Carli Bei has the news that EVERYONE is talking about including details on a deadly bacteria outbreak in Louisiana. Here she is with a NN Bulletin. A lethal type of bacteria that lives in soil and water has been released from the Tulane National Primate Research Center in Louisiana. Thing is, after weeks of investigating, authorities still aren_t sure HOW the deadly strain was released from the high-security lab. Officials stress there is no risk to the public. Researchers at the lab - located 35 miles north of New Orleans - had been working on a vaccine to combat the bacteria. California border authorities made one of the biggest marijuana busts in US history last week. A truck claiming to be carrying pillows and mattresses was found stashed with 15 tons of pot. Customs and Border Police at the checkpoint ordered the truck into a cargo bay for X-rays and then found the haul. The truck was packed from floor to ceiling with the illicit cargo, which carried an estimated street value close to 20 million dollars. And a sketch broadcast on this weekend_s edition of Saturday Night Live has sparked MAJOR controversy online. It featured host Dakota Johnson playing a young woman being dropped off at the airport by her father, played by Taran Killam. Have a look.Perhaps not too surprisingly, a sketch about a father dropping his daughter off to join ISIS militants didn_t go over too well with the general public.
