Our top story comes from The Hague, where an alleged war criminal known as the Butcher of Bosnia is mounting his defense from a number of war crime charges. Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic has finally gotten a chance to tell his side of the story.After nearly 13 years on the run, Karadzic is facing 10 charges of genocide. This is your News off The Top.Karadzic is primarily standing trial for his role in the Srebenica Massacre - a widescale execution that killed 8-thousand Muslim men during the dissolution of Yugoslavia in the 1990_s. During his first day of defense, Karadzic denied the charges and claimed to be a tolerant man who had only wanted peace.He also said he did everything he could to reduce pain and human suffering during the war. He_s accused the media of exaggerating the number of casualties during the conflict. Authorities finally caught up with Karadzic in 2008, where he had been hiding in plain sight for the last 13 years. If convicted of the charges he could face life behind bars. More now from the fallout of last month_s terrorist attack on the American embassy in Libya. The assault killed a US ambassador and has become a hot topic in the US Presidential election. Republican candidate Mitt Romney has been quick to criticize Barack Obama_s foreign policies. On Monday, Secretary of State Hilary Clinton deflected some of the blame by taking responsibility for the incident. Clinton went on to say that she didn_t want to get into any blame game, and that the focus should now shift to tracking down the terrorists and bringing them to justice. Nevertheless, political experts believe the Benghazi attack will dog the Obama administration for the duration of the campaign. We_ll finish up this first look at the headlines with some surprising political news out of Israel. Parliament there has voted unanimously to dissolve itself and hold an early general election next January. That_s almost a year earlier than expected.Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called for early elections last week, mainly because his government was unable to pass a key budget bill, which in turn would have resulted in unpopular spending cuts. Pundits expert a vicious 100-day election campaign, and consider Netanyahu an overwhelming favorite to stay in office. There_s a lot to like about Netanyahu_s leadership. Israel_s economy has remained strong and he_s taken tough stances on foreign policy. Meanwhile, the Kaspersky Lab has ALSO shed light on a billion dollar international hacking ring The scheme is believed to have started in 2013, and affected more than one hundred banks in thirty countries. Rather than targeting consumers, hackers aimed malware at bank employees to gain info on internal operations. The report says that most of the banks were located in Russia, but institutions in China, Ukraine, and the US were also victimized. Officials say the plot points to a new era in cybercrime, calling the scheme the most successful criminal cyber campaign they have ever seen. It_s not good news for Google Peyton and it COULD cost the search giant tens of BILLIONS Here_s what_s going on. The competition branch of the European Union is accusing Google of abusing its dominance online. EU officials claim Google favors its own shopping links over those of other online vendors. The case is the result of a five year investigation into Google that was launched following complaints from Microsoft Tripadvisor and many others since 2010. If found guilty of anti-competitive behavior Google could face billions in fines and might have to make major changes to the way it does business in Europe. In other news President Barack Obama has recommended to Congress that Cuba be removed from the U.S. government_s list of state sponsors of terrorism. After the announcement the Cuban government praised Washington for its fair decision to remove them from the controversial list. The designation put Cuba in the same category as serious offenders including Syria and Iran - had been a major sticking point in previous negotiations. And it turns out the US Congress will have a say on the recently agreed-upon nuclear deal between Iran and the White House. A bipartisan bill has been passed in the Senate that will give members of congress the right to reject any final deal with Iran. However President Obama still retains the right to veto their decision. An outline agreement on Iran_s nuclear program was reached earlier this month and delegates have set a June 30th deadline to iron out the details.
