Let_s send you over to the studios, where Madison Banes has details on a major court decision that could set a very pricey precedent Marina, a San Francisco jury has sided with a former school groundskeeper in his case against Monsanto - manufacturer of the world_s most popular weedkiller, Roundup. Dewayne Johnson claimed the product gave him cancer, and the jury just awarded him 289 million dollars in damages The decision opens the door for a wave of other cases against Monsanto. There are thousands of other plaintiffs claiming Roundup gave them cancer. Johnson_s case was the first, but it won_t be the last. Meanwhile a US federal court has issued a ban on another commonly used pesticide. The chemical in question is called chlorpyrifos. It_s been used on crops nationwide since the 1960s, but research has shown it can cause learning disabilities in children. The court issued its ruling last week, and now the Environmental Protection Agency has sixty days to finalize the ban. NASA obviously isn_t big on Greek mythology, _cause they_re flying to the sun On Sunday the Parker Solar Probe launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida. It_s mission? To explore the sun_s atmosphere and fly closer to the giant star than any spacecraft has ever reached The autonomous probe will have to withstand temperatures of nearly 25-hundred degrees Fahrenheit. It should make its first close approach of the sun in November, and will spend the next seven years in its orbit collecting data.
