Wince! The viewer will wince, and perhaps even empathetically emit cries of ecstasy/anguish during this torture-fest, definitely for hardcore S & M aficionados.
Leather Rick, tough tattooed biker-type sporting heavy metal studded wristbands subtly (in this scene, subtly) torments a twinkish kid named Rocky with an amazing variety of bondage paraphernalia, focusing on one of the most vulnerable areas: the cock and balls (in this case, hairy yet strangely pristine until the torment begins).
As with most of the videos in this series, some of the camera work seems aimless and the lighting changes, but The Pain Down Below actually reveals clearer pictures while not detracting from the docudrama of a dungeon play party.
The sound track is non-obtrusive, a kind of 1960s Star Trek science fiction wordless chorus at times, but note that except for Rocky's muffled screams emanating from the gas mask, one only hears the music, an interesting effect which does add a certain strangely surrealistic yet detached perspective.
The second section on this tape, Lashed Down at the Mineshaft, is a bondage scene set at the old Mineshaft in New York, with unknown participants from The Skulls.
Though potentially interesting and revealing some stunning visual imagery at times, the cheesy music and poor lighting are serious barriers to enjoying the scene.
Leather Rick carefully (at times, almost too carefully, but one can appreciate the craftsman-like care he takes) places a gas mask on sitting Rocky's cute youthful head and duct tapes it, to the supercilious amusement of three onlookers at the dungeon party, including a woman wearing thigh-high boots (who kicks the weight attached to Rocky's balls at one point).
Admittedly, the scene takes a while to get going, until Rick, having stood Rocky up begins to display his masterful bondage work, harnessing with rope almost every joint of his smooth boy's body after restraining his hands from in ceiling hooks.
An unfortunately abrupt cut after the lengthy tying reveals in horrifying splendor Rocky stuck with clothespins like a barbaric spiked mace; yet by now the action has finally taken on a more mesmerizing rather than methodical pace while Rick binds up the cock and balls with a rope, a parachute, and a weight, which is then attached to an elaborate rope pulley system. Each movement Leather Rick makes, the slightest movement of the rope, causes Rocky the most exquisite torment.
The cock and balls jiggle, and one wonders if the master technician Leather Rick has added electricity. Some interesting close-ups of the contraption add interest to the scene, though at times Leather Rick's back blocks the full view, especially when the knife play begins! One winces as the knife smoothly yet sharply runs across the quivering flesh. Tenderizing the meat, perhaps?
Leather Rick casually (which adds to the sadism) moves the rope pulley around, tortures the nipples with clothespins, runs the knife under the nipples, on the balls The cries of this amazing boy Rocky (and those eyes under the gas mask, what a haunting shot) would be piercing if he were not hooded so, and when what appears to be a spot of blood on the balls appears, the film ends. The overall play pace is slow at first and at times clumsy, but once the brutal crescendo of the play escalates, the viewer is mesmerized.
Lashed Down at the Mineshaft is something of a let-down rather than a lash-down despite the historical interest. Someone who resembles the Brawny paper towel man (with a slight gut) is bound to a cross (some fine rope cuff and rope harness work) by two biker types and tormented with cigarettes, clamps, and clothespins, though the best part is the exquisite drawn out removal of each clothespin. Wince!
"Rocky is in an even more vulnerable position than in the unnamed slave of Down and Dirty; in the previous cassette, while the body writhed in agony it could at least react to the violence being inflicted upon it. Rocky, strung up in such a way that any movement brings pain, can only endure. What Slave and Master Video has wrought -- although technically imperfect -- is remarkable. The sheer audacity of showing real sadomasochism in a format that is based on the ability to create unreality is laudable.
