It appears that a cease-fire has been negotiated between Israel and Hamas.The question now becomes n will it last, and if not, how long until hostilities resume?Here_s the latest.The cease-fire was announced by Egypt_s foreign minister in Cairo. He was joined by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who joined negotiations earlier in the day. According to Clinton, in order for the cease-fire to hold, Hamas must put an end to the rocket attacks against Israel coming from Gaza.It was those attacks that prompted Israel_s retaliation, which in turn killed Hamas_s military leader. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a statement, saying that after consulting with US President Barack Obama, they had agreed to the truce. Since the fighting began last week, close to 160 people have been killed. Shortly before the deal was reached, however, a bus bombing in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv injured at least 24 people. A spokesperson for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tweeted that the bombing was being treated as a terrorist attack. The bus in question was passing military headquarters at the time.Hamas had claimed responsibility for the bombing, calling it a natural responsei to Israeli attacks in Gaza. There had also been reports that Israel launched strikes on a soccer stadium in Gaza, while Hamas was continuing to fire rockets into Israel. Hopefully that_s all over and done with now. The only surviving gunman from the 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai has been executed. Mohammad Ajmal Kasab a Pakistani national n was one of 10 gunmen who carved a path of violence through the city, killing 166 people. Kasab_s last minute mercy plea to India_s President was rejected.This marks the first time since 2004 that a sentence for capital punishment has been carried out in India. Victims of the 2008 rampage n which lasted 3 days n included foreigners, wealthy businesspeople, and poverty-stricken commuters. Kasab was videotaped in a train station where 58 people were killed, carrying an AK47. He had claimed to investigators that his father encouraged him to carry out the attacks.It should be mentioned, Peyton, that his father denied those claims.It_s kind of hard to take anything someone like Kasab says at face value.We_ll be back with more news shortly, in the meantime Kat, we_ll send it over to you.
