Let_s get right into the headlines courtesy of our very own Katherine Curtis who_s got some surprising new info on American oil production.As we all know Eila crude oil prices have TANKED over the last little while but that hasn_t stopped American companies from producing at RECORD levels The US oil industry is projected to produce a RECORD amount of oil this year. And the thing is you couldn_t pick a stranger time to have a record-breaking year. Oil prices have fallen from over a hundred dollars a barrel last summer to about fifty this year. A big reason for the production surge is the delay between when oil wells are drilled and when they start pumping oil which can take up to a year. That means the recent declines in the industry haven_t been felt yet on the production side of things.Saudi Arabia is spending more than ever on its military. The country_s military budget grew by 17-percent in 2014 to 80.8 billion dollars. It marks the biggest jump among the world_s top defense spenders. The increase reflects the volatility in the Middle East. But when it comes to over-ALL spending the US is still far and away the global leader. Their bill totaled 610 billion dollars last year. The Gap Sears and Target are among 13 major US retailers being investigated in New York for how they schedule their hourly workers. Attorney general Eric Schneiderman has asked them all for details on the companies_ use of on-call shifts. It_s a growing trend that allows stores to have more staff when it_s busy and fewer when times are slow. Employees are often told whether they_ll be working just hours before the start of a shift making it difficult for them to manage family life like child care. I_m Katherine Curtis we_ll be right back
