French President Francois Hollande has announced the deployment of ten thousand troops within the nation_s borders to counteract further terrorist plots. Nearly five thousand security force members will be assigned to protect Jewish schools and synagogues across the country. The government says the additional troops are needed because there is still potential for retaliatory attacks. On Sunday nearly four million people took part in unity marches across France showing solidarity against the attacks on Charlie Hebdo a supermarket and police officers that claimed seventeen lives. US President Barack Obama was not among the forty world leaders linking arms at the Paris march but he IS doing his part to support the international community_s fight against terror. The White House announced it will host a Summit on Countering Violent Extremism next month. The talks will highlight domestic and international efforts to prevent violent extremists and their supporters from radicalizing recruiting or inspiring individuals or groups to commit acts of violence. The summit will be attended by US officials and delegates from other world powers and will kick off on February 18th.And Cuba has carried through on its promise to release 53 prisoners as part of the deal between Raul Castro and Barack Obama last month. The move is considered a major stepping stone towards improved relations between Havana and Washington. The identities of the 53 people released has been kept secret but Congress is expected to make the names public later this week. The move by Cuba should prompt the US Congress to ease economic and travel restrictions against the island nation. Officials from both countries are set to meet for historic talks next week.
