After a phone conversation with Putin Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko was optimistic that the peace process could finally begin. Ukrainian officials are set to meet with pro-Russian separatists in Minsk on Friday. However the general attitude remains one of mistrust towards Russia. Ukraine_s Prime Minister dismissed the peace plan as a deception saying Putin wanted to destroy Ukraine and restore the Soviet Union. France meanwhile has cancelled its planned delivery of a warship to Russia due to Moscow_s continued support of separatist rebels. President Obama is voicing caution when it comes to any promises from Putin. It_s going to be difficult to overcome all the mistrust between these leaders. In other news the US Justice Department has announced plans for a thorough investigation of the police department in Ferguson Missouri. All aspects of the Ferguson PD - which came under national scrutiny for the shooting death of Michael Brown will be subject to federal review. The probe will look at past complaints involving Ferguson police as well as training and day-to-day operations. Sources close to the matter say the investigation is very serious and could lead to a federal takeover of the department. CVS is going tobacco-free a little earlier than expected The pharmacy chain has COMPLETELY eliminated the sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products in their stores. It had previously announced the ban would take effect by October first. To underscore the move CVS officially changed its name to CVS Health. It_s the FIRST major pharmacy chain to stop selling cigarettes. The move could cost CVS as much as two BILLION dollars in annual revenue.And car company Tesla has chosen Nevada as the location for its giant battery factory. The Silver State beat out California Texas New Mexico and Arizona to win the business. The Gigafactory project will cost anywhere from four to five BILLION dollars and employ as many as 65 hundred workers. It_s unclear WHERE exactly in Nevada the plant is to be built. But it will be relatively close to Tesla_s assembly plant and corporate headquarters in California. Michael Bloomberg is BACK in charge of his company The former New York City mayor will return as the head of financial and media group Bloomberg LP. He_ll replace Daniel Doctoroff who stepped down earlier this week. Bloomberg said he never intended to come back after twelve years as mayor of New York.
