Former US Vice President Dick Cheney has some harsh words about the highly-publicized torture report on the CIA_s interrogation techniques after 911. The report released on Tuesday claimed the techniques used by CIA operatives were brutal and far worse than initially thought. But in an interview on Fox News Cheney defended the controversial tactics and didn_t hold anything back when it came to his thoughts on the 500-page summary.Cheney also shot down claims that then-president George W. Bush had been kept in the dark about the interrogations. Cheney said that Bush knew everything he wanted and needed to know. Elsewhere in Washington squabbling over the newly proposed spending bill means there is still a chance of a federal government shutdown. Democrats have dug their heels in on certain financial and political provisions included in the 1.1 trillion dollar bill. The most notable being a Republican measure to remove planned restrictions on derivative trading by federally insured banks. Another sticking point is a raise on the limit of campaign donations that would let individuals contribute ten times more to national political parties than before. Republicans are allowing a one or two day extension past the Thursday deadline but so far have been unwilling to make any concessions on most of the provisions inside the bill. And the city of Detroit passed a significant milestone on Wednesday. It is officially exiting bankruptcy and will soon begin paying off its creditors The city_s emergency manager Kevyn Orr said the city_s financial crisis had been rectified and that it was once again poised to grow. Detroit declared bankruptcy in July 2013 citing 18 billion dollars worth of debt. It hasn_t been an easy process. Many of Detroit_s pensioners had to accept cuts to their benefits to satisfy creditors and the city also had to give up ownership of Joe Louis Arena home of the NHL_s Detroit Red Wings.
