Wayne is an American businessman who has come to Hong Kong after the handoff to see if business is still being done as usual. It is at the firm of Van Der Lyrck, a powerful trading house that blends Western practices with Oriental customs and traditions, with sensual and seductive results. It's there that he meets the breathtakingly beautiful Tan, a concubine working for Van Der Lyrck as an erotic lure. Wayne falls in love with her, just as Van Der Lyrck planned. He also plans for Tan to cloud Wayne's judgment to enable Van Der Lyrck to take advantage of the business proposal Wayne is offering. But Wayne is smarter than he looks, and negotiates a shrewd deal that puts him in control of the venerable commercial firm, and in possession of Tan, whose contract he buys out to give the seductress her freedom again.
